I really thought we had a good long list of Warblers that we had seen before this season, but we are still finding more - or at least finding a few, again, to get better photos. We took this little fellow - a Worm - Eating Warbler - just a few weeks ago at a very local park. I had a good photo from Front Royal, VA, but this one turned out even better.
The next three Warblers, we have only seen once so far. I call them our 3 P’s (although there are other Warblers whose names start with “P”). We continue to search for these.
First, the Palm Warbler.
Next, the Pine Warbler.
And, then the Prairie Warbler.
The last few with “Warbler” in their names are…
Yellow Warbler (we have seen these in different parks while at home and traveling)
Nashville Warbler (just recently found in Baltimore City at Patterson Park).
Cape May Warbler (also originally found at Patterson Park in Baltimore City)
There are a few birds that fall into the Warbler category, but you would not know this by their names.
American Redstart
Louisiana Waterthrush
Ovenbird
OK, well we have not really SEEN a true Ovenbird, yet, but our daughter works at a coffee shop called “Ovenbird Bakery”. I couldn’t resist!!
As I promised, there is one bird that was “de-classified” as a Warbler in 2017, but the reference booklet that I use for Warblers has him in it. He is still a beautiful bird and was a lot of fun to capture in a photo. The Yellow Breasted Chat.
If you are interested in searching for Warblers either in the spring or fall, just remember to get your neck muscles in shape! From an American Bird Conservancy webinar on Warblers — “They are known for their charm and challenge - and to cause ‘Warbler neck’!
We will continue to search for more Warblers - again either around our home area or when traveling. I do have one on my list that I REALLY want to find - a Cerulean Warbler. You will have to look that one up on the internet, because I never use photos of birds that have not been taken by us.
Have a great week!!
